Allowing Rando Matches in SF4?

So, after our last podcast, and the next time I hoped on Street Fighter IV, I decided to change my setting to allow Match Requests in the form of Ranked Matches only. I decided to do this based upon SXE's recommendation that he hasn't gotten many requests, and we thought it was because of him switching it to Ranked Matches only rather than all and/or Player (friendly) Matches. I was hesitant because as I pointed out in our podcast, every time I switch it on, without fail, Id get a match request and it would kinda ruin the whole experience for me, because of having to reload the same match over and over and not progressing through the game.

Before I get into what happened, I'll just throw up my settings here as a little preface for the story. I change my "Arcade Req Settings" to Ranked Match, my Rounds and Time Limit to 3-99, and Search Priority to "Same Skill". When you play the "Network Battle" mode it specifically tells you to try and only accept or play matches with people with a good connection, and it show you a pic of full antennae strength, so I try to keep that in the back of my mind as I approach he game.

Being the adventurous sort of person I am, I switch it on and begin my little "Arcade Experience". Yep, you guessed it, I immediately got the "A New Warrior has entered the Match" message. I didn't even get to finish loading up the very first character in Arcade Mode, amazing!!!

So, I go to the screen, see the guy has half signal strength, so I accept and we go into the character select screen. Without waiting for me to switch my character, he slams that baby up to Akuma, and I say to myself, "Awesome, if it ain't Ken or Ryu, they always pick Akuma!, this should be fun!". So I switch over to Sagat and the match starts up.

This dude spams fireballs all over the ring, I mean it's ridiculous how many fireballs are coming from this fucker, just a total shit ton of fireballs, in every form imaginable; normal, the double hits, the jumping, and the double jumping kind. I'm amazed this dude has all of these at his disposal. So, I try to match him fireball for fireball, but that doesn't work as he throws out the double ones, and I get hit by the second one. Amazingly, not much of my health is being taken away. Anyway, long story short I beat the guy 2-0 with only the first round being really close.

We get to the BP (Battle Points) results page, and I get 87 points from this guy, my first WIN!!! I look at his total and his total is like 1500 or something. I thought I set this thing to Same Skill???

So, I go back into the Arcade mode, fight my first match, and start up the 2nd, and BOOM, "A New Warrior has Entered the Match!" no kidding! This time it's a dude with 2 bars, and he picks Honda. I thrash the dude in the first round, and he starts to really lag, and wins the 2nd. I'm a little more cautious, with this dude lagging all over the place, and pull out a close Ultra Combo Finish for the win. I only get a whopping 35 points, and his BP rating was 1200.

I go back to the arcade mode, but before I can fight the CPU, "A New Warrior has Entered the Match!", I shit you not. This time 2 bars and Ryu. So, I win the first match, and then bam bam he wins the next two and I could pull of a move at all. I lose 17 points, and this fuckers BP is 2400, WTF!!!

I go back to Arcade start fighting my 2nd match, and yep you guessed it, "A New Warrior has Entered the Match". Fuckin' Holy Christ!!! So, this guys' got 1 bar, so I immediately bail. I go back to the arcade fight my 2nd match, start up 3rd and I get a new challenger!!! So much for this thing being less than friendly!

This one has 2 bars, and he picks Ken. The first round was close, I win, but then no contest has he hits me time and time again before I can even move. It was like he's seeing me stand there and then he makes his move, and after it already connects, my guy starts his move, terrible lag. I chalk it up to me just not being that god, but then I see this guys' BP and it's 2600 too!

With my little experiment at an end, this is what I've concluded; SXE is a jackass!

Just Kidding. This Ranked Match with Similar Players is way off, or just doesn't work the way I think it's supposed to. Having the Request Feature turned on is no fun, I'd rather just go in there and try to find a match with "Network Battle" than having my "Arcade Mode" interrupted time and time again. Don't accept matches from anyone that has under 3 bars. Always fight guys that pick Akuma. Be wary of guys that select Zangief or Honda. Oh yeah, and practice, practice, practice!!!
