How Stupid is Sheva?

Admittedly I've never really played a Resident Evil game before, I've never been into the whole "Horror" genre at all. Not movies, not books, and not video games, it's just not my style. However, I really wanted to give Resident Evil 5 a try because of how good it looked. The games artistic style is very impressive and and the graphics in the game are stunning. The frame rate doesn't seem to drop and there are no little hiccups within the story mode. It looks beautiful all around, even when it goes to a cut-scene and back again, it's seamless, bravo.

The controls, while they take a while to get used to, fit within what I perceive the games' style to be, and I don't have an issue with them at all. Well, maybe if there were a quick select option, to change weapons, but having to press triangle, move the D-pad to the right weapon, pressing X, selecting Equip, and then aiming again takes WAY too long.

Chris is a certifiable bad ass, but his "Guns" are overly developed and massive for someone in his position. These types of guys, special forces, elite para military guys, etc. don't concentrate on building their arms up for Mr. Olympia, they're concerned with speed, quickness, and efficiency, being bulky doesn't mesh well with that concept. Oh yeah, and where in the hell is this guys' neck huh? It goes from ear to shoulder immediately! What's with Capcom and their inability to draw a neck on their male characters? Even in Street Fighter IV, there are no necks on some of the male characters, check for yourselves.

Sheva on the other hand is drawn to perfection, she's a very beautiful character. However, for being military trained, she's a horrible shot, or at least she hasn't been trained to kill. In the mission where you're in the caves/mining tunnel, and you decide to hold the lantern, she is constantly shooting people in the gut instead of the head, what's up with that? Back in the mission where the big dude with the chainsaw comes after you, she stands there and offers no help as he cuts your head off with the chainsaw! COME ON!!!

If the stupid bitch would aim for the head, things could go a lot easier for her and you as a team. However, since she loves the gut shot, you are constantly trying to cover for her and lend her ammo. Bitch, shoot the face!!!

The game as a whole is enjoyable and I will play it through onto completion, but there are just a few issues, as stated above, that bother me. Enjoy the game, but be prepared for the above issues.

Allowing Rando Matches in SF4?

So, after our last podcast, and the next time I hoped on Street Fighter IV, I decided to change my setting to allow Match Requests in the form of Ranked Matches only. I decided to do this based upon SXE's recommendation that he hasn't gotten many requests, and we thought it was because of him switching it to Ranked Matches only rather than all and/or Player (friendly) Matches. I was hesitant because as I pointed out in our podcast, every time I switch it on, without fail, Id get a match request and it would kinda ruin the whole experience for me, because of having to reload the same match over and over and not progressing through the game.

Before I get into what happened, I'll just throw up my settings here as a little preface for the story. I change my "Arcade Req Settings" to Ranked Match, my Rounds and Time Limit to 3-99, and Search Priority to "Same Skill". When you play the "Network Battle" mode it specifically tells you to try and only accept or play matches with people with a good connection, and it show you a pic of full antennae strength, so I try to keep that in the back of my mind as I approach he game.

Being the adventurous sort of person I am, I switch it on and begin my little "Arcade Experience". Yep, you guessed it, I immediately got the "A New Warrior has entered the Match" message. I didn't even get to finish loading up the very first character in Arcade Mode, amazing!!!

So, I go to the screen, see the guy has half signal strength, so I accept and we go into the character select screen. Without waiting for me to switch my character, he slams that baby up to Akuma, and I say to myself, "Awesome, if it ain't Ken or Ryu, they always pick Akuma!, this should be fun!". So I switch over to Sagat and the match starts up.

This dude spams fireballs all over the ring, I mean it's ridiculous how many fireballs are coming from this fucker, just a total shit ton of fireballs, in every form imaginable; normal, the double hits, the jumping, and the double jumping kind. I'm amazed this dude has all of these at his disposal. So, I try to match him fireball for fireball, but that doesn't work as he throws out the double ones, and I get hit by the second one. Amazingly, not much of my health is being taken away. Anyway, long story short I beat the guy 2-0 with only the first round being really close.

We get to the BP (Battle Points) results page, and I get 87 points from this guy, my first WIN!!! I look at his total and his total is like 1500 or something. I thought I set this thing to Same Skill???

So, I go back into the Arcade mode, fight my first match, and start up the 2nd, and BOOM, "A New Warrior has Entered the Match!" no kidding! This time it's a dude with 2 bars, and he picks Honda. I thrash the dude in the first round, and he starts to really lag, and wins the 2nd. I'm a little more cautious, with this dude lagging all over the place, and pull out a close Ultra Combo Finish for the win. I only get a whopping 35 points, and his BP rating was 1200.

I go back to the arcade mode, but before I can fight the CPU, "A New Warrior has Entered the Match!", I shit you not. This time 2 bars and Ryu. So, I win the first match, and then bam bam he wins the next two and I could pull of a move at all. I lose 17 points, and this fuckers BP is 2400, WTF!!!

I go back to Arcade start fighting my 2nd match, and yep you guessed it, "A New Warrior has Entered the Match". Fuckin' Holy Christ!!! So, this guys' got 1 bar, so I immediately bail. I go back to the arcade fight my 2nd match, start up 3rd and I get a new challenger!!! So much for this thing being less than friendly!

This one has 2 bars, and he picks Ken. The first round was close, I win, but then no contest has he hits me time and time again before I can even move. It was like he's seeing me stand there and then he makes his move, and after it already connects, my guy starts his move, terrible lag. I chalk it up to me just not being that god, but then I see this guys' BP and it's 2600 too!

With my little experiment at an end, this is what I've concluded; SXE is a jackass!

Just Kidding. This Ranked Match with Similar Players is way off, or just doesn't work the way I think it's supposed to. Having the Request Feature turned on is no fun, I'd rather just go in there and try to find a match with "Network Battle" than having my "Arcade Mode" interrupted time and time again. Don't accept matches from anyone that has under 3 bars. Always fight guys that pick Akuma. Be wary of guys that select Zangief or Honda. Oh yeah, and practice, practice, practice!!!

OMG KIllzone 2?!?!?!

I've been playing a lot of Killzone 2 lately, of course on the highest difficulty level, and I'm absolutely amazed at how "hard" the game is compared to other games in the genre. Don't get me wrong, I love the game being hard and difficult, I'm just surprised at it's difficulty level.

Most games, regardless of your difficulty level is, sort of level off and then ramp up at certain points of the game, making you adjust your gameplay. All of this is cool, and overall I'm very happy with the game, it's just interesting to see the game take this direction.

One of the things that does bother me about the game is the crappy friendly AI in the game. OMG, these guys that are on the ISA are totally fuckin' stupid!!! We go into a hostile situation and the friggin' idiots just run out into the open, are immediately flanked, and put down. So, instead of having a friendly AI companion with you during the stage, you're busy fending off Higs left and right and when there's a chance trying to run up to your buddy to heal him. Then, when you do heal them, they run off again and get shot to hell!!!

Aside from that bit of bonehead programming, I'd rather have no partner that trying to heal someone all through the game, the game (at least to me) doesn't have any other faults.

Back on how hard the game is. You seriously need to use cover throughout the game or you'll easily die about 15 times in each level. You stand up, from your crouched level, and immediately start taking shots, and if you stay up too long, BOOM there goes your head, and here comes the "Sev, Sev, you OK?!?!" as the screen fades to black.

It's kinda funny when you are standing up and taking shots, your buddy yells at you, "Sev, find some cover damnit!". Sort of a call back to Army of Two, all over funny to hear your buddy doing that when he's running out in the middle of an open area and getting blasted!

The game is fun, enjoyable, and difficult, that's a 3-way win!!!

If you're a fan of shooters, First Person Shooters to be exact, then this is a definite "Must Buy". The controls and movement are totally different than anything you've used before, so there's a little bit of a learning curve there, but once you nail that down, you should be good to go.

There's a tad bit of exploring to do, to get the isignias and briefcases, so that adds another aspect to the game. Get into this game so you can play it with the rest of us and you'll be able to play with the almighty PAYBACK clan, "where you can be a part of all of this..."
